International Women’s Day 2024

International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th. It provides an opportunity to reflect on progress, advocate for change, and honor acts of courage and resolve by ordinary women who have played significant roles in the history of their countries and communities.

This year’s IWD theme is, ‘Count Her In, Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment’. The issue is consistent with the priority theme of the UN 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 68), which will examine approaches to increased economic inclusion for women and girls worldwide. The subject acknowledges that, despite progress, women continue to confront major barriers to equal economic involvement, and it advocates for equal opportunities for women and girls to develop their capacities and increase their capacity to learn, earn, and lead.

Today we celebrate the achievements of women that have been observed for over a century. But it’s also a reminder that ‘we can construct a better world.’
