Practice Overview

Alison Buchanan is a Shareholder in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, where she focuses her practice on business litigation. Alison is the Chair of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group. She represents clients in complex business disputes, including contract, fraud, misappropriation of trade secrets, unfair competition claims, and employment law litigation. She has significant trial experience, including serving as lead trial counsel in jury and bench trials in state and federal court.

Alison is a Certified Specialist in Legal Malpractice Law as certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Her additional experience in employment and real estate litigation makes her a valued resource for her clients. Alison is a sought-after speaker on attorney ethics.

Alison was named a “Northern California Super Lawyer” from 2013-2023. Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor. She was selected as a Northern California “Rising Star” in 2012. Alison was also recognized as one of the Top Professional Responsibility Lawyers of 2024 by the prestigious Daily Journal.

Professional Activities

Alison is a Certified Specialist in Legal Malpractice Law, as certified by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. She previously served as a Commissioner for the Legal Malpractice Law Advisory Commission of the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization.

Alison is the current Chair (and a founding member) of the California Lawyers Association’s Ethics Committee.

From 2011 through 2014, Alison served a three-year appointment to the California State Bar’s Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct (COPRAC). She previously served on the Executive Committee of The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Legal Malpractice Section.  She is a member of APRL (Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers). She has chaired the Professionalism Committee for the Santa Clara County Bar Association (2015 – 2016), and previously served on its Civil Practice, Business Law/Business Litigation Committees (2010 and 2011 Chair), Finance, Law Related Education (2008 Chair), and Barristers Committees. Alison is also a past co-chair of the Amicus Committee for the Campaign for Legal Services.  For ten years, Alison taught Professional Responsibility at Lincoln Law School in San Jose.

Alison currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society Silicon Valley. She is also a 2008 graduate of the Community Leadership San Jose-Silicon Valley Program.
