By Hoge Fenton | 01.8.2019 | Firm Post

SAN JOSE, Calif.  — January 8, 2019 — Hoge Fenton, a leading Northern California law firm, today announced the promotion of Karen A. Meckstroth and Eugene “Geno” Ashley to shareholder status, effective January 1, 2019.

Meckstroth chairs the Trusts and Estates Group and has led the growth of the team in sophisticated estate planning, charitable planning, and the representation of tax exempt organizations. She is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law under the State Bar of California’s Board of Legal Specialization. She works closely with clients, including Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and young generations of legacy families, to create estate plans designed to have a positive impact on family members and the community, in addition to tax planning.

Ashley is an instrumental contributor to the firm’s Business Litigation and Real Estate Groups. As a veteran trial lawyer, his experience ranges from “bet the company” lawsuits with multimillion-dollar outcomes to prosecuting and defending actions arising out of contract and business torts, unfair business practices, trade secrets claims, and complex construction and real estate disputes.

Both Meckstroth and Ashley came to Hoge Fenton with distinguished legal careers. Meckstroth previously worked for Bingham McCutchen LLP and Hopkins & Carley. Ashley was a shareholder at Hopkins & Carley, where he was a member of the Commercial Litigation and Real Estate Practice Groups. He also served as the firm’s General Counsel.

“I joined Hoge Fenton to work with some of the most talented and trusted estate planning attorneys and litigators in the Bay Area,” said Meckstroth. “I am thrilled to become one of the firm’s shareholders and look forward to collaborating with our growing team to provide our clients with meaningful and personalized results.”

“Hoge Fenton’s excellent reputation of providing outstanding client service first attracted me to the firm,” said Ashley. “Working with this dynamic group of attorneys solidifies my belief that Hoge Fenton is a great fit for me. I look forward to furthering our firm’s long-standing reputation and service to clients.”

“Hoge Fenton provides clients excellent service and trusted counsel,” said Daniel W. Ballesteros, managing shareholder at Hoge Fenton. “Our attorneys help clients reach their business and/or personal goals, and both Karen and Geno exemplify the core values of the firm. They are good people, excellent attorneys, and committed to their communities. Karen and Geno are able to masterfully address legal matters while addressing the business or clients’ goals as a whole.”
