It is with great sadness we announce the passing of former Hoge Fenton partner Charles H. Brock. Chuck Brock practiced at Hoge Fenton for more than 40 years, from 1958 until his retirement in 1998, briefly coming out of retirement to handle particularly complex cases in 2000 and 2003.

During his long and illustrious career, Chuck tried more than 100 cases in state and federal courts and handled numerous appeals including before the California Supreme Court. He was a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He served as President of the American Inns of Court, Santa Clara Inn, and on the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Northern California. He served as a lecturer at the Hastings College of Law Trial Advocacy Program and as Judge Pro Tempore to the Superior Court, County of Santa Clara, for many years.

Chuck graduated from Hastings College of Law, University of California in 1957. While in law school he was elected to the Order of the Coif and was the 1956-57 Associate Editor of the Hastings Law Journal.

Chuck will be remembered as a “lawyer’s lawyer.” He was highly respected by all who had the honor and privilege of practicing with (or against) him. Chuck held himself and his colleagues to the highest standards of excellence. However, it was not just that he set the bar extremely high, but also that he brought out the best in those around him and inspired others to be the best lawyers they could be. To work with Chuck meant that you were practicing law the way it was meant to be practiced.
