Experienced Legal Assistant – Full-Time Position

We have an immediate opening for a full time, experienced legal assistant in our Pleasanton office. This position is non-exempt and reports to the firm’s Director of Human Resources, and secondarily to the Executive Director.

This position will support attorneys in multiple practice areas, including both litigation and business transactions.

Required Skills, Education, & Experience:

  • High school education required; college degree or some college is desirable
  • Three years in a legal secretarial support position
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and Microsoft Office suite; proficiency in law firm systems software highly desirable
  • Excellent English spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, and grammar
  • Knowledge of legal calendaring, court requirements, and e-filing
  • Keen organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively

Practice Team Assistant – Full-Time Position

We have an immediate opening for a full time Practice Team Assistant in our Silicon Valley Office (downtown San Jose). This position is non-exempt and reports to the firm’s Records Supervisor and Chief of Finance. Hours of work for this position are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.

This position is an integral part of and provides clerical support to three litigation teams, working directly with our legal secretaries. Duties and responsibilities include: scanning and profiling incoming mail; physical and electronic filing; indexing legal documents; maintaining working files/binders; critical review, and closing of client files; conflict checking; other tasks in support of the legal team and Records Department; and reception coverage.

Required Skills, Education, & Experience:

  • High school education required; some college desirable
  • Superior organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Proficiency in general office skills, including filing
  • Proficiency in basic keyboarding and ability to learn application software
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Thrives in a collaborative work environment
  • Knowledge of legal records is not required, but is a plus
  • Physical requirements include bending, moving and lifting up to 25 pounds

Attorney Positions

Privacy / Data Security Associate – Silicon Valley Office 

Hoge Fenton has an immediate opening for a Privacy / Data Security associate attorney. This position is primarily transactions and regulatory compliance work and is based in our Silicon Valley (downtown San Jose) office.

Knowledge and experience in privacy, data security, and related transactions is required. Some litigation experience is a plus. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Privacy: Contracts, policies, regulatory compliance, advice & counsel
  • Data Security: Contracts, data breach response/management/remediation, information security plans, compliance advice & counsel
  • Tech & Commercial Transactions: Data security, protection, transfer, and sharing agreements, SaaS, API, licensing, online Terms of Use / Terms of Service, manufacturing, distributor, and reseller agreements

Job Requirements

The candidate must have:

  • 3+ years of experience as a practicing attorney (or commensurate industry experience), preferably some of which has been in the private law firm environment
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Strong legal and factual research skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A commitment to excellence in one’s work
  • A desire to learn and grow professionally; intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to take direction and work well both independently and as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated sound judgment

Although not required, it is helpful if the candidate has familiarity with laws, regulations, and industry standards such as California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) SP800-53 and Cybersecurity Framework, and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) series 27001/2, 27005, 31000.

Must be a current member of the State Bar of California.
