Former Hoge Fenton attorney Carl L. McConnell passed away on March 17. A partner from 1996 until he retired in early 2010, Carl was a litigator with over 35 years of diverse experience in private practice, teaching and public interest law. He was an arbitrator, mediator and temporary judge.

A Yale alumnus, he was active in professional and community work. In 2008, Hoge Fenton named the Mentor of the Year award after Carl, given Carl’s high standards of excellence, both as a practitioner and as a mentor.

Carl will be remembered as a fine man who made a difference, with a genuine smile, laugh and good counsel. He is survived by his wife Susan, his son Matt, his daughter Jessica, five grandchildren, and one brother.

Donations in Carl’s memory may be made to the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, an organization about whose mission Carl was passionate.
