John Cavin utilizes 35 years of experience to help guide clients in making the right decisions in litigation or business transactions. A commercial real estate and business litigation attorney, his diverse clients range from high-tech start-ups and existing businesses to food brokerages, insurers, lenders and commercial contractors. He has handled the negotiation and sale or merger of businesses ranging in size from $5-$50 million.
John is a veteran litigator with decades of state and federal trial and appellate experience. In addition, he has served as in-house and outside counsel. John is a trained mediator with hundreds of hours of formal, certificated training and is a member of Hoge Fenton’s mediation practice. He has mediated dozens of cases throughout Northern California and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Contra Costa County Alternative Dispute Resolution section.
John has an extensive background in the area of title insurance and escrow operations. He has served as Division Counsel to National Title Insurers where he had direct responsibilities for claims, underwriting and agency operations. He has also served as West Coast counsel for the Koppers Company and its subsidiaries, Sully-Miller Contracting Company and Blue Diamond Materials.

John has been a panelist and lecturer at seminars for local, state, and national Bar Associations on a wide variety of topics. He serves on the boards of directors for several nonprofit organizations, including the California Wild Sheep Foundation, the Whitehawk Ranch Mutual Water District, and is a Ruling Elder with Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church in San Ramon California.
