Phillip Steinbock

Practice Overview

Since 1968, Phillip Steinbock has represented his clients’ interests as a trial attorney. With an emphasis in real estate, finance, business, construction, and consumer fraud, he has tried and adjudicated more than 200 cases, including over 100 jury trials.

Mr. Steinbock represents land developers before public agencies, and defends and prosecutes real estate brokers, agents, buyers and sellers in commission disputes, fraud, failure to disclose and general malfeasance. He advocates on behalf of his clients in trial, prosecuting and defending builders of single-family homes, multiple residential units, offices, and commercial building prospects. He has tried multiple business and contract disputes, ranging from $250,000 to $5,000,000.

Past Experience

In the recent past, Mr. Steinbock was appointed as Special Trial Counsel by the U.S. District Court in a $100 million law suit, which he tried over a 4 month period. He was also lead trial counsel in a complex consumer case in which he was one of the principal negotiators of a settlement in excess of $80 million.

Prior to joining Hoge Fenton, Mr. Steinbock was a partner in the firm of Steinbock and Hofmann.

Professional Activities

Phillip Steinbock served on the Executive Committee, and as Past President for a Litigation section of the Santa Clara County Trial Lawyers’ Association. He is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the American Bar Association, and has been a member of the Trial Section for both organizations. Mr. Steinbock has also been a member of the American Trial Lawyer’s Association, and the California Trial Lawyer’s Association.

Mr. Steinbock has presided as Judge Pro Tem over many Superior Court cases. He has also served as an arbitrator in complex real estate and business litigation matters.

Mr. Steinbock is admitted to practice in all California courts, and in the United States District Court for the Central and Northern Districts of California .
