We are pleased to announce that Catharine B. Baker has joined our firm


Catharine Baker, a member of the firm's Litigation Practice Group, is an experienced litigator who practices general commercial and securities litigation. While based primarily in the firm's Tri-Valley office, she also will occasionally work from its headquarters in Silicon Valley.

Catharine has represented companies, officers, directors, and investment advisors in securities class actions, SEC investigations and enforcement proceedings, and derivative actions. She also has represented clients in complex commercial litigation, consumer class actions, antitrust, professional negligence, trademark infringement, false advertising, and unfair business practice claims. Her experience spans a range of industries, including software, telecommunications, high-end retail, manufacturing, and financial services.

Prior to joining Hoge Fenton, Catharine practiced at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco. While there she was a member of the trial team in In re JDS Uniphase Securities Litigation, which successfully represented the company and four former executives in the largest securities class action ever tried to verdict in the United States.

Catharine received her B.A. with Honors in Political Science from the University of Chicago, and her J.D. from U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall). She clerked for Hon. Alicemarie H. Stotler, U.S. District Court Judge for the Central District of California, and externed for Hon. William H. Alsup, U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of California before entering private law practice. Prior to entering law school, Catharine was the Senior Legislative Aide to the late U.S. Congressman Sonny Bono, advising on legislation related to health care, Social Security, appropriations, natural resources, agriculture, the environment, energy, Native American affairs, and transportation. She also is a former Abraham Lincoln Fellow with the Claremont Institute for Statesmanship and Public Policy in Claremont, California.

Catharine is very committed to a number of community non-profit and political organizations, particularly in the Tri-Valley region of Northern California. She also is an active member of many professional organizations: San Francisco Bay Area Federalist Society, San Francisco Bay Area Bank Attorneys Association, California Bankers Association, Association of Business Trial Lawyers, National Republican Lawyers Association, and California Republican Lawyers Association.
