Practice Overview

Ms. Meier advises her clients on all aspects of human resources issues from pre-hiring through termination of employees. In addition, she guides her clients through the complexities of wage and hour compliance, worker classification, employee benefits, and employee leave issues. Ms. Meier partners with her business clients, providing organizational and strategic planning for the human resource functions, particularly in complex mergers, acquisitions, and reductions in work force. She frequently is retained as an independent investigator for harassment/discrimination investigations.
She serves as counsel both to private companies and to public sector employers in labor union negotiations.

Training and Speaking Engagements

Ms. Meier frequently conducts workshops for businesses and professional organizations on a variety of topics in the employment law area, including wrongful termination, proprietary agreements, wage and hour compliance, ADA compliance, workplace investigations, employee leaves, and preventing discrimination and sexual harassment. She also lectures for The Rutter Group, Pepperdine University School of Law, Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), The State Bar of California, Santa Clara University School of Law, Santa Clara County Bar Association, The High Technology Crime Investigators Association, POST, and the Council on Education Management.

Professional Activities

Ms. Meier is an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, serving as its President in 1994. She is a graduate of American Leadership Forum--Silicon Valley and currently serves as a senior fellow and a member of its Board of Directors. She also is a Vice President of the San Jose/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Alliance of Chief Executives. Ms. Meier serves on the Board of Building Peaceful Families, and is a member of several committees. She was named to San Jose Magazine’s Top 300 Lawyers in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005, and was named a Super Lawyer by San Francisco Magazine in 2004 and 2005. She was also listed in Bay Area Lawyer Magazine’s Best Lawyers in the Bay Area list for 2005.
