Practice Overview
John Hickey, a member of the firm’s Real Estate Group, specializes in land use and real estate transactions. His practice focuses on entitlement and permitting for residential and commercial development, purchase and sale transactions, and related municipal law. Mr. Hickey has substantial experience counseling private entities and public agencies on matters arising under federal, state, and local land use and environmental laws, including CEQA, NEPA, the Subdivision Map Act, the California Planning and Zoning Law, the Endangered Species Act, and the Clean Water Act. He also has significant experience practicing before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and has represented and counseled electric utilities and water agencies in hydroelectric licensing and license amendment proceedings, federal energy regulatory compliance, dispute resolution matters, and business strategy in an evolving energy market. Mr. Hickey’s experience provides a valuable range of strategic options for his clients. He has advocated for clients in in land use, environmental, and energy matters in administrative proceedings, arbitration and mediation proceedings, and in the courts. Prior to joining Hoge Fenton, Mr. Hickey practiced with Morrison & Foerster in Palo Alto and Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger in San Francisco. He also has worked as a consultant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Park Service on environmental issues.
Mr. Hickey is admitted to practice in California, Colorado, and the District of Columbia.
