Practice Overview

Sean Cottle focuses on real estate transactions and land use law. For the past 16 years he has advised and represented landowners, developers, builders, subcontractors and homeowners in all phases of real estate, from acquisition and entitlement to post-sale issues.

Sean developed an outstanding reputation throughout Contra Costa County and the Tri-Valley before joining the firm in September 2004 and now enjoys the same reputation throughout the Peninsula and South Bay. He has provided invaluable advice and counsel to many clients in evaluating commercial and residential land acquisition and development opportunities. Sean’s real estate practice also has included the representation of both landlords and tenants in reviewing, negotiating and drafting commercial, office, retail and ground lease transactions. He has advocated for individual property owners in numerous land use and real estate disputes. Sean also has served as outside general counsel to several commercial and industrial contractors and suppliers. Since joining the firm Sean has negotiated hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate transactions in California and across the United States.

Professional Activities

Sean is a member of the Building Industry Association Bay Area (Life Spike Member), the California Building Industry Association, the National Association of Home Builders (Life Spike Member), and the Real Property Section of the California State Bar Association.

Community Activities

Sean serves on the Board of Directors of the San Jose Downtown Association (member of its Executive Committee and former treasurer of the organization from October 2008 to December 2010). He was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce. He also is involved in the Rotary Club of San Jose.
